Wow! What a difference two weeks make!
The Skyhawks are still the first to see the silver lining in the Southeast Division, breathing fire on the Del Sol Dragons, 3-1, then beeping their way over the Roadrunners 3-0.
The Cougars pounced on the Gators in the only match they had, keeping a 1-0 unbeaten record for the last 10 days. Coronado’s serving played an important factor, in the 3-1 victory.
On Monday the Gators lost, but the next day they chomped down hard on the Wolves winning 3-0.
The Wolves split their matches, first hunting down the Patriots in three sets, then getting bitten by the Gators, 13-25, 16-25, and 21-25.
The Skyhawks slew the Dragons early in the week, 3-1, but then Del Sol fought back to ring Liberty’s bell, beating them 25-21,25-15, 25-18.
On Friday the 28th the Shadow Ridge Mustangs bucked the Falcons out of the saddle in three sets, but eight days later Foothill outran the Roadrunners, 3-0.
The Roadrunners had no fuel in their tank against the first-place Skyhawks, losing 3-0 in their encounter and the Patriots couldn’t free up a win against the Wolves or the Dragons losing both matches in three sets.
Las Vegas decided to just go wild! The Wildcats won all three matches decisively, losing only one set out of twelve. First the ‘cats tamed the Mustangs quickly 25-23, 25-16,25-20, starting the first week of October with a bang. Two days later they torched the Sundevils, 3-0, and managed to lasso the Cowboys, at home. 3-1.
Speaking of cowboys, Chaparral split the two matches they played seven days apart, getting a win against the Vikings.
The Rams got their horns sharpened and used them to crunch the Pioneers in three sets afterwards they bore down on the Vikings 25-9, 28-26, 25-15, keeping a perfect record for the past two weeks.
Everybody else in the Northeast Division had three matches, like the Pioneers who were 2-1, first losing to Rancho but then caging the Jaguars, 3-0 and blowing out the Sundevils’ flame at 3-0 as well.
The Jaguars found gold at Eldorado winning 3-1, but two days later the Pioneers trapped them, 0-3, regaining their composure, they were later victorious, at home against the Vikings, winning 25-19, 25-10, 27-25.
The sun shone brightly for the Sundevils who went 0-3 this week, but despite their losses ending in double digits they have nothing to be ashamed of. Winning a set off the Jaguars, the Sundevils tried to beam their light in the eyes of the Wildcats losing 20, 18, and 17. The Pioneers dimmed the Sundevils shine in three sets finishing 25-19, 25-19, 25-23. Losing two points in the last game means the Sundevils were fighting and competing all the way to the end…keeping shining ladies!
The Vikings, only tanned slightly by the Sundevils’ rays, follow them closely in the rankings. The Vikings lost their clash against the Cowboys in three sets. Valley versus Rancho resulted in a three set loss and the Jaguars had to work to win their three sets against the motivated Vikings who lost the last set 25-27.
It’s always hot in the southwest and Durango is blazing a scorching path, leading the trail with a 3-0 record, which started by unplugging the Chargers in four sets, losing only the second set, 17-25. Entering the lion’s den they leapt past Sierra Vista in three and came home to take the fight out of the Warriors 25-14, 25-6, and 25-18.
In second place, Sierra Vista sprang on Spring Valley, 3-0, lost to Durango and in the Volleyball Voices, Game of the Week, won in five sets against the Bengals of Bonanza.
Bishop Gorman went undefeated winning both their matches beating Bonanza, in three and wrestling the Warriors 25-16, 25-13, 25-11.
The Grizzlies lost their first of three succumbing to the Lions, 0-3, but then biting Bonanza 3-0 and taking the Chargers, 3-0.
Clark couldn’t repeat last week’s charge in both matches they played, first losing against the Trailblazers, 1-3, and at home against the Grizzlies 0-3.
In the Southwest there are Sierra Vista Lions, Bengal tigers and Spring Valley Grizzly bears, Oh my! The Bonanza Bengals, in the Volleyball Voices Game of the Week played the Sierra Vista Lions in the only five set match of the week and lost the first four sets in double digits. Only in the fifth set did the Bengals really feel the bite of the powerful Lions. Before pushing the Grizzlies in a corner, Bonanza lost to the Gaels and Spring Valley in three sets.
This week, Western lost the war in both matches they played, first against the Gaels in three sets and then again against the first place Trailblazers.
The sun never sets in the Northwest where the Bulldogs pawed their way over the Longhorns and mauled the Mustangs 3-0 holding onto a perfect 2-0 record.
The Panthers were kept busy this week, where they hunted their game first at Cimarron Memorial winning 3-0. They knocked over the Desert Shields 3-0 and then pounced on the Aggies, 3-0.
The Mustangs rode all over the place when they beat the Falcons, Sept 28th, 3-0. Las Vegas domesticated the Mustangs in 3 sets, but then they beat the Aggies 25-16,25-11,25-11.
The Spartans went 2-1, first being patrolled by the Panthers, but turning things around rattling Mojave 25-23, 25-13, 25-9 then dulling the shine on the Desert Shields beating Cheyenne in three sets. The Longhorns got bit by the Bulldogs in three sets, but rallied to shake off the Rattlers 24, 18 and 21, finishing with one win and one loss for the week.
The Aggies couldn’t hike above Shadow Ridge, losing in three nor could they tame the Panthers losing to them with scores of 5, 16, and 18.
Cheyenne failed to shield themselves from Palo Verde nor could they defend themselves against the Spartans losing both matches in three sets.
The Rattlers lost their skin to the Spartans 23, 13 and 9 and lost to the Longhorns in three, as well, 24, 18 and 21.
