Volleyball Knee Pads Have Been An Important Part Of My Volleyball Uniform
Since I know from experience, I can tell you that volleyball knee pads are
such an important part of a player's volleyball uniform, whether they are
in volleyball practice or competing in a game, I've included a lot of information
about them on this site so that players can compare and make responsible
choices regarding fit, usability, comfort and efficiency.
I'm 6'0' feet tall and in college I had to learn to love to play defense. Trust me
it wasn't love at first sight. learning to love to hit the ground from such a high
distance took a lot of repetition and persistence. It took hours of practice and the right pepper
partner (Beverly Robinson) for me to begin to see how important becoming a
very good defensive player would help contribute to my team. It became a matter of pride
for me to learn to be able to pick up any ball that was hit, tipped, tossed or thrown anywhere
in my general vicinity.
Initially as a left side hitter I played backrow defense only on the left side.
But during one of my team's (University of Tennessee, Knoxville) frequent workout
and practice sessions at Penn State it was decided that I would
play middle back defense instead of left back.
That meant I was responsible for covering a lot more of the volleyball court. A lot
of people were responsible for me learning how to increase my range, cover a lot
of aourt and play better defense but two of the first during my college years were
my college coach Bob Bertucci (now at Temple) and Penn State coach Russ Rose.
(Yep, Russ was at Penn State "waaay" back then, lol!)
In some defensive drills, Bertucci would throw the ball literally almost anywhere in the gym and
we would have to anticipate where the ball was going to land in order to get it up.
While Russ had the quickest armswing and the lowest elbow while hitting when he conducted
defensive drills, so it was extremely hard to read where he was going to hit
the ball which meant if I wasn't already in a low position and ready to scramble
for the ball I was never going to dig it up. But it also meant that in a game, I was
ready to play defense against players who didn't hit the ball as low and as fast as he
did, so actually in many cases playing in a college volleyball game became a lot easier than participating
in a college volleyball practice because the tempo of practice was a lot faster.
My volleyball knee pads were my best friends in club, college and the national team.
When I wore them I didn't worry about hitting the ground and I didn't think twice
about diving or rolling to get a ball up. My personal philosophy with the type of
volleyball knee pads I chose to wear was that I wanted to wear them but I didn't want to
feel them.
I think that choosing volleyball knee pads comes with practice. Your team may all wear
a certain brand but your personal favorite pair of knee pads may be a completely
different brand.
On this site you can shop for all for under armour volleyball knee pads,
mizuno volleyball knee pads, asics volleyball knee pads, basically all the top name
brands of top of the line volleyball knee pads for serious players.
Remember, the ball is in your court!
