$8,000 Big Shot Championships Volleyball Tournament at Bally’s Casino Sept 8 - 9
Spalding's KOB All-Weather Volleyball will be the official ball for 2012
The Big Shot Volleyball Championships, presented by 4C Totally Light 2Go, will return to Atlantic City on September 8-9, 2012 in front of Bally’s Casino. The tournament is entering its 22nd season bringing top beach volleyball players to Atlantic City
The tournament has a tradition of placing the past winners on the event t-shirt that is given to all of the players each year at registration. To show the strength of this event three of the past winners competed in the London 2012 Olympics:
- Phil Dalhausser, 2008 Olympic Gold medalist for the United States
- Steve Grotowski who represented Great Britain
- Marie Andree Lessard who represented Canada
Top male and female doubles teams from throughout the United States and Canada will compete for $8,000 cash prizes at the tournament, courtesy of Bally’s Casino, East End Volleyball and Great American Volleyball. Players will also earn points in the $25,000 Volley America Grand Prix, to be awarded at the end of the season. Tournament play will start at 9 am Saturday with semi-finals and finals starting Sunday at 11 am. Admission is free for all spectators.
The Big Shot Volleyball Series holds 35 events leading to the October 27-28 $5,000 Volley America National Championships at Clearwater Beach, FL. Top male players in this year’s tournament include a reuniting of the top team on the East Coast from the 199-2001 seasons, Jake Elliott from Mt. Pleasant, SC and BJ Soldano from Freehold, NJ, who are trying to have the longest time between Big Shot Championship titles. They last won this event in 2001.
The top NYC team of Mike Salak and Greg Hunter will compete along with 2 teams from Montreal, Canada.
Top female players on the East Coast will also be present including Florida’s Kristen Batt who finished 2nd in the Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Tournament in Belmar, NJ in June. Hilary Pavels and Dana Fiume will team up to be the strongest northeastern representative.
The Big Shot Championships provide an excellent venue to watch top players on their way up to the US Pro Tours. Plus the public will be able to meet and greet the players at the Saturday evening player’s party to be held at Bally’s Beach Bar from 7-9 pm Saturday.
Separate divisions will be held for players of intermediate and novice levels on Saturday and Sunday.
