Volleyball News On the Net:
USA Volleyball Beach To "Expand" Department, Hire A Director
Although women's college volleyball game attendance was up this year,
I think it's pretty impressive how far behind the US is, in promoting
pro indoor and beach volleyball in this country.
You realize this immediately when you travel to other countries and see not thousands of people but
but tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands attend volleyball games.
Professional beach volleyball and pro indoor volleyball players who travel outside
the US to compete in other countries have known this for a quite awhile now.
Hopefully things are changing for the better...
Yesterday USA Volleyball voted to expand the beach volleyball
department and hire a new senior level beach volleyball
director. Some say to satisfy US pro beach volleyball players who claimed that
USA Volleyball pays too little attention to the sport.
New Volleyball Practice Gym for Colorado Volleyball Women
Energy entrepreneur and Colorado University grad George Solich
is reportedly looking to spearhead a millionaire donors club to raise
$50 million dollars from 50 alumni to cover the costs
of a new volleyball practice facility, and augment coaching salaries
among other things.
"Of the $82 million generated by the (Texas) team last season, $30 million came from donations by alumni and fans to get in line for season tickets. Another $33 million came from ticket sales to seven home games at the newly expanded Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, which now fits 101,000 fans." (Forbes Magazine)
While new volleyball practice facilities are in the planning stages at CU,
newly renovated athletic facilities are a reality at Mid Plains Community College.
“We are thrilled with the new facilities,” said NPCC Lady Knights Volleyball Coach Sally Thalken. “We have needed them for a long time and the college made the right step in getting it done. The college and the community should be very proud of these facilities.”
College Volleyball News
In college volleyball news the University of Houston has hired former Ole Miss women's volleyball assistant coach Molly Alvey to replace former coach Bill Walton who resigned earlier this year.
University of Kentucky assistant volleyball coach Lauren Sauer was hired as head
volleyball coach at James Madison.
Caitlin Murphy, senior libero from Eastern New Mexico University, received a US National Volleyball Team tryout invitation.
Volleyball Injuries
"Sportswomen get injured more as 'training programmes are designed for men'
The U.K's Telegraph claims that:
"Female athletes receive more injuries than men
because training programmes are designed for males, physiologists have claimed."
Okay, in America we spell "program" with one "m" but besides that, here's the good news:
"Many of the injuries women suffer because of this are preventable.
Women are not men, just like children are not small adults.Training programmes are not a 'one size fits all'."
Okay where were these people and this report..when I was in college with my volleyball team doing the same agility and many similar conditioning workouts as the football team?
Speaking of which Change Sports Physical Therapy Institute has been named the Preferred Physical Therapy Provider for U.S. National Volleyball Teams.
Thanks to Bode Miller we may need some volleyball marketing damage control. No wait, he makes the news every four years for things other than skiing. I think we're good.
Volleyball Pictures
Photographer Bettina Hansen shot volleyball pictures at (NERVA), the New England Region Volleyball Association's Mizuno Volleyball Winterfest, held at the Connecticut Convention Center with over 150 junior volleyball clubs in attendance.

Beijing Olympic Silver Medalist and USA Volleyball Player Kim Glass is in Prostejov with USA teammate Ogonna Nnamani.
1. 2. 3. 4...Okay, that's in the Czech Republic. I didn't know it either, lol. The pictures give you a taste of how "quaint" the city is. Kim's writing style is awesome, she's hilarious. Stay tuned.
