C-USA VOLLEYBALL SHOOTING STARS (Tues., Sept. 15)
UCF had three players total 10-or-more kills, which included a match-high 16 kills from senior Erin Campbell, but it was not enough as the Knights fell to in-state rival USF, 3-0 (23-25, 23-25, 23-25) in front of a school-record 1,603 fans at The Venue at UCF for VolleyBowl II. The crowd of 1,603 broke the all-time attendance record that UCF set last season in their home-opener against then-No. 3 Stanford, which was the original VolleyBowl.
Southern Miss swept ULM in three sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-20), running their record to a school-best 11-1. Ashley Mell and Angela Hlavaty led the attack with eight kills each with Mell and Kelsea Seymour tallying nine digs apiece. Halie Ecker recorded three of the team's 10 aces.
Elizabeth Herman and Kristin Marcum recorded 14 kills each as Marshall (11-2 ) came from behind to defeat Morehead State, 3-1 (27-29, 25-17, 25-20, 25-21), at Wetherby Gym. Herman added six digs and six block assists, while Marcum tallied a match-best 18 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
For the seventh consecutive match Kinsey Cave led Houston offensively but came up short at Texas State, losing 3-1 (25-19, 9-25, 22-25, 18-25). Cave tallied 16 kills, in addition to seven digs. Amanda Carson also recorded a season-high 22 digs, her highest total since corralling 31 digs against Sam Houston State one week ago.
