Katie Sanders recorded her ninth double-double of the season
BOULDER, Colo. - No. 19 Baylor continued its torrid start in Big 12 play with its fifth-straight conference victory in a sweep (25-14, 25-19, 25-15) of Colorado on Saturday night at the Coors Events Center.
Senior Katie Sanders led the Bears with 12 kills, recording ninth double-double of the season, also posting 13 digs. Ashlie Christenson also recorded double-digit kills with 10 on the night. Anna Breyfogle added eight, and Torri Campbell and Taylor Barnes each had seven. Barnes tallied 41 set assists.
On defense, Baylor had three players in double digits in digs, led by Allison King's 18. The match marked the 14th consecutive match that King has recorded at least 10 digs. Sanders' 13, as well as 11 from Caitlyn Trice rounded out the back row for the Bears.
In the first set, Colorado jumped out to and 8-6 lead, but an efficient Baylor offense went on a 4-0 run to grab the lead back at 10-8. Two kills by Katie Sanders and one each by Campbell, Barnes and Graham pushed the lead to 21-12. CU scored two points in a row, but three kills in a row by Sanders, Barnes and Christenson finished off the Buffaloes in the first set, 25-14.
Baylor jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the second set after another Christenson kill, but CU bounced back tying the match briefly. Baylor ripped off two points on kills by Breyfogle and Graham. Two Barnes kills in a row and kills from Campbell and Christen put BU up 22-17. Campbell made it set-point, and a CU error gave Baylor a two-set lead.
The Bears squashed any CU comeback early in the third set with a 10-4 run to open the set. Two attacked errors in a row by CU after kills by Sanders and Christenson gave Baylor the six-point lead. The Bears pushed the lead to 10 on kills by Barnes and Breyfogle, then finished off the match with a Christenson kill.
The Bears, 16-1 overall and 5-1 in the Big 12, have won five in a row in the conference and take on Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas on Wednesday Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
