Georgia State Volleyball Players Conclude Spring Season
ATLANTA - The Georgia State volleyball team concluded the spring season
with a win and two losses on Saturday morning at the Southeast College
Invitational hosted by the Alliance Volleyball Club in Franklin, Tenn.
The Panthers opened with a close loss to top 40-ranked Lipscomb, 20-25,
25-21, 15-12. Junior Rachel Boryc led the team with seven kills and two
total blocks, while redshirt-sophomore Vineece Verdun added five kills
on five attempts for a 1.000 attack percentage. Juniors Raquel Jones and
Ashley Jones each scored five kills.
State responded with a three-set win over Belmont, 25-17, 19-25, 15-8.
Ashley Jones led the team with six kills, while Boryc added five and 1.5
total blocks. Raquel Jones added three kills and 2.5 total blocks in the
win.
Georgia State concluded the tournament falling to Tennessee State in
three sets, 9-25, 25-20, 13-15. Verdun and Ashley Jones led the team
with six and seven kills respectively.
The Panthers finished the spring with a 5-4-1 record, previously
earning wins over Jacksonville State, Southern Miss, Kennesaw State and
South Alabama. The squad also tied Mississippi State to open the
season.
The Panthers return 10 letter winners from last year’s 16-14 squad,
including All-CAA honorees Ashley Jones and Jamiee Freeman, along with
Audrey Cantrell, who will look to set the school all-time digs record
during her senior season.
