Sinjin Smith collegiate event coming to
Long Beach along with AVP NIVEA Tour 92-time AVP winner holding tournament co-located with Long Beach Open; registration still open LOS ANGELES – When the AVP descends on the sands of Long Beach, Calif., this weekend, it won’t mark the only tournament taking place. Beach volleyball legend Sinjin Smith is running the 4th Annual Collegiate Open Beach Volleyball Championship July 24-25, co-located with the AVP NIVEA Tour Long Beach Open presented by Malibu Rum. “Sinjin Smith is an icon of our sport and we are proud to have the AVP’s top athletes competing next to elite collegiate players this coming weekend,” said Jason Hodell, AVP CEO. “This is a great way to enhance the experience for those competing in Sinjin’s event, further develop beach volleyball’s pipeline of exciting young talent, and continue our outreach to the core of Volleyball Nation.” “The reason for this event is to create an opportunity for collegiate players to compete against each other from all over the country,” said Smith, who won 92 AVP tournaments and 139 titles overall in his storied career. “The great thing about having the AVP there is that the players will also be able to see the top pros in the world competing right there. They’re going to be competing right there next to the best of the best, including the gold medalists.” Players interested in competing in the Collegiate Beach Open Volleyball Championship can still sign up at http://www.facebook.com/l/ac3c4yajcQsQmD287dYb8gWFtKA;www.collegebeachvolleyball.com.
