University of Texas Arlington Volleyball Team Rolls McNeese State, 3-0
Bianca Sauls led a precise attack with 12 kills and no errors, helping UT Arlington cruise to a 3-0 win at McNeese State on Thursday night.
Behind Sauls’ .706 attack percentage, the Mavs hit a season-best .336 in their 25-21, 25-19, 25-21 victory.
The win marked the first time since 2007 that UTA (8-9, 2-1 SLC) won back-to-back road matches.
Raegan Daniel turned in a 43-assist performance, marking her fourth 40-assist night of the season and third in four matches.
The senior setter was masterful, as she often is, in spreading her passes around. Tara Frantz and Amanda Aguilera finished with 11 kills apiece. Emily Shearin and Christy Driscoll tallied nine and eight kills, respectively, while committing only one error each.
Shearin ended the match hitting at a .578 clip and Driscoll finished at .438.
“Once again, we passed very well off our digs,” UTA coach Diane Seymour said. “We passed it in locations where Raegan was able to distribute it to any of our hitters.”
As has been the case over the last two weeks, libero Alicia Shaffer anchored the defensive performance. Because the match only lasted three sets, Shaffer could not make it four consecutive matches with 25 digs. She instead notched 24 digs – eight per game.
“Getting eight a game; that’s outstanding,” Seymour said. “If she can continue to do that, we’ll win a lot of matches.”
Sauls also chipped in 10 digs for her 19th career double-double. Aguilera also added seven digs.
The Mavs finished with eight blocks. Sauls led the way with four and Frantz had three, including two solo blocks.
UT Arlington had to come back to win the first set, but led virtually the entire way through the second. The Mavs finished the Cowgirls off in the third by dominating after trailing early in the set.
Regina Trapp and Priscill Massengale led the Cowgirls (6-12, 1-3) with 10 kills each.
The Mavs return to the court Saturday afternoon when they play at Lamar.
