Southern Miss Volleyball Team Hosts UCF and UTEP
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss volleyball team continues Conference USA action this weekend at home in Reed Green Coliseum as the Golden Eagles host UCF on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. followed by UTEP on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Golden Eagles aim to snap four-match losing streak this weekend with after playing the last three matches on the road.
Southern Miss fell to 8-9 after going 0-2 at Houston last weekend. The Golden Eagles suffered back-to-back 3-1 losses to the Cougars. So far this season, three Eagles are averaging 2.00 kills per set or more, including junior Ashley Mell who leads the team with 4.65 kills per set. Sophomore Halie Ecker is not far behind with 3.38 kills per set and junior Lauren Sear is averaging 2.03 kills per set. Junior Kelsea Seymour has been the primary setter this season, averaging 11.18 assists per set. Junior libero Lisa Knecht has a team-high 4.71 digs per set.
Southern Miss vs. UCF
USM is 6-4 all-time against the Knights. USM won the first meeting on Nov. 10, 1998, 3-1. UCF won their first match against the Eagles on Sept. 27, 2005, 3-1. UCF last defeated USM on Sept. 18, 2008 winning 3-0. Southern Miss has since won the last three meetings with two of those matches going five sets.
Scouting UCF
UCF is 9-9 overall with a 2-4 C-USA record. UCF snapped a nine-match losing streak by posting back-to-back wins over East Carolina last weekend. Four players have registered over 100 kills on the season led by Kristin Fisher with 275.
Southern Miss vs. UTEP
Southern Miss owns a 4-3 record against the Miners dating back to 1995. UTEP won the first match against the Eagles, 3-0, on Sept. 8, 1995. USM won its first match against UTEP on Aug. 31, 1996, 3-1. Southern Miss won the last two meetings.
Scouting the Miners
UTEP is 12-7 overall in 2010 with a 4-2 record in C-USA play. The Miners have won five of their last seven matches, including the last two. UTEP swept the Marshall in both matches. Prior to taking on the Southern Miss on Oct. 17, the UTEP will face Tulane on Friday, Oct. 15.

Southern Miss remains at home for the next three matches, beginning with a mid-week contest against Tulane on Oct. 20 followed by Marshall on Oct. 22 and East Carolina on Oct. 24.
