Florida State Volleyball Team Jumps to No. 24 in Latest NCAA Volleyball RPI Rankings
Florida State moves up five spots after finishing 2-0 last weekend
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – The Florida State University volleyball team moved to No. 24 in the NCAA’s latest RPI standings, gaining five spots from the previous week after defeating both North Carolina and North Carolina State last weekend.
The Seminoles (18-9, 10-7) defeated the second-place Tar Heels last Friday, 3-2, before beating the Wolfpack in straight sets at Tully Gym. FSU sits in a four-way tie with Miami, Georgia Tech and Maryland in the conference standings. The Seminoles take on the Terrapins this Friday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. in Tallahassee.
Based on the latest RPI, FSU has now earned victories against eight teams that are in the Top 60. Those wins including home matches against No. 12 Duke (3-2), No. 22 North Carolina, No. 35 Virginia Tech (3-2) and No. 60 Clemson (3-1). FSU has road wins at No. 26 Miami (3-1), No. 49 Kentucky (3-2) and No. 54 Georgia Tech (3-0), and a neutral-site victory against No. 27 Oklahoma.
The Atlantic Coast Conference has 10 of its 12 teams placed at 74th or better in the latest RPI.
FSU has four matches remaining in the 2010 regular season, including three important conference matches at home. Following Friday’s match, FSU battles Boston College on Sunday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. at Tully Gym. The contest will be televised on Fox Sports Florida, and will be the second “Paint it Pink” clinic of the season.
The Seminoles wrap up conference play with a home match against rival Miami on Friday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m. Their final regular-season contest occurs the following day on Saturday at Florida A&M.
