What did I win by playing volleyball and other sports?
I was inspired and learned my work ethic and discipline from other volleyball players who were better than I was.
I saw how they practiced volleyball, I saw how often they worked on their volleyball skills and what they focused on.
Besides learning all the physical aspects of the game I learned how other volleyball players used this sport to become mentally tough.
I learned how they set their goals and what they did to accomplish them.
I learned how not to be afraid of setting my goals high.
Subsequently, as a high school sophomore I set four goals:
- to earn a college volleyball scholarship
- to make the US National Volleyball Team
- to become a professional volleyball player
- to become a professional beach volleyball player
While accomplishing these goals I hope I learned how to inspire other female volleyball players both on the court and off.
I was able to accomplish all my goals through determination, hard work, discipline and prayer. And those same elements have set the framework for how I confront life off the court as well.
Playing sports taught me various ways of how to put myself ahead of my competition.
I may not always win, but I will compete.
