WMU's Jess Brown, Allyson Doyle and Sam Viox Named Academic All-MAC
CLEVELAND -- Western Michigan volleyball's Jessica Brown, Allyson Doyle and Sam Viox were named to the Academic All-MAC Team by the Mid-American Conference on Monday afternoon.
For Viox and Brown, it is the first academic recognition in their careers. Viox was named MAC Setter of the Year and was First Team All-MAC with a 3.52 GPA in food and consumer goods marketing. The Cincinnati native ranked sixth in the nation with 11.92 assist per set and helped the Broncos to average 14.17 kills per set.
Brown, a sophomore from Kentwood, Mich., was also named First Team All-MAC and led the Broncos in kills with 3.30. She holds a 3.64 GPA in recreation. She recorded double-digit kills 21 times during the season and surpassed 15 kills seven times, including a career-high 22 against Eastern Michigan on Nov. 13.
Doyle ends her volleyball career with her second Academic All-MAC honors, after being named to the team in 2009. The Battle Creek native was named ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic All-America and carries a perfect 4.0 GPA in speech pathology and audiology. She was named Second Team All-MAC and averaged 3.83 digs per set and finished with 13 kill-dig double-doubles on the season.
This is the second straight season WMU had three student-athletes named Academic All-MAC as Doyle, Katie Eberling and Jillian Mitchell were honored last year. WMU has now had 13 total Academic All-MAC honors since head coach Colleen Munson was hired in 2005.
