Indiana Sycamore Volleyball Goes 1-3 At Indy; To Host Tournament On Saturday
DAHL SEES PROMISE IN SYCAMORES AT INDY COLLEGIATE TOURNAMENT Indiana State to host Spring Volleyball Tournament Saturday in ISU Arena PLAINFIELD, Ind. – The Indiana State volleyball team played in the first of three tournaments planned for the Spring season, finishing 1-3 at the Indy Collegiate Invitational hosted by the Circle City Volleyball Club and played at the Capital Sports Center. “We had some really good moments and some moments that showed what we need to work on,” Traci Dahl, Indiana State volleyball coach, said. “I am looking for us to build off of our mistakes from the weekend, work on them in practice, and bring something different to this weekend’s tournament.” The Sycamores opened against Ball State and dropped both sets to the Cardinals 20-25, 15-25. Indiana State also dropped two sets to Western Kentucky 21-25, 16-25 but came back with a big win over Southern Illinois 25-20, 27-25. Indiana State closed out the tournament with a 19-25, 20-25 loss to Xavier. Indiana State will host the ISU Spring Tournament on Saturday in the ISU Arena. Joining the Sycamore swill be the University of Indianapolis, IUPUI, University of Southern Indiana, Wittenburg, and the University of Evansville. ISU opens action against Evansville at 9:30 a.m., taking on IUPUI at 11:30 a.m., Indianapolis at 1:30 p.m., Southern Indiana at 2:30 p.m., and Wittenberg at 4:30 p.m. All games are free to the public which should use the Fifth Street entrance to the ISU Arena. The roster for the Sycamore spring season features the first three recruits signed by Traci Dahl after she became the Sycamore coach in February 2008. Shelbi Fouty, a setter from Plainfield, Ind., was Dahl’s first recruit and returns for her senior season in 2011 along with Kiya James, a defensive specialist from Indianapolis, Ind., and Stacy Qualizza, a middle blocker from Crown Point, Ind. Also returning for their third season at Indiana State are Moran Dall, an outside hitter from Avison, Ill., Shea Doran, a middle blocker from Martinsville, Ind., and Christie Fullenkamp, an outside hitter from Botkins, Ohio. Four current freshmen will also be on board for their sophomore campaigns including Loni Mackinson, a setter out of Pontiac, Ill., who missed the entire Missouri Valley Conference season in 2010 with a knee injury. Also returning will be Molly Murphy, an outside hitter out of Chicago, Ill., Monique Morris, an outside hitter from Brown Deer, Wis., and Alysse Hogan, a middle blocker from Seal Beach, Calif.
