UCF Volleyball Team Releases 2011 Schedule
Knights set to play 18 matches at The Venue at UCF this season.
ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Three tournaments at The Venue at UCF and 13 matches against teams that concluded the 2010 season in the top-150 on the final NCAA RPI Report highlight UCF volleyball’s 2011 schedule released by fourth-year head coach Todd Dagenais Thursday. The Knights will host 18 regular-season matches on their home court this season, including 10 Conference USA contests.
This year’s schedule pits the Black and Gold against five teams that posted 20 or more wins last year, including USC, who finished the season ranked No. 3 in the final AVCA Coaches Poll with a 29-5 record and made its sixth appearance in the NCAA Final Four in the last 12 years.
Before its meeting with the Trojans, UCF will open its season Aug. 26-27 by hosting the Radisson-UCF Classic at The Venue at UCF, where it will face-off against South Alabama, Michigan State and North Florida.
The Knights will follow its home-opening tournament with its only road event of the year, the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament, Sept. 2-3 in Ft. Myers. There, the Knights will take on Dagenais’ former squad, USC, Furman and host Florida Gulf Coast, before returning to Orlando for two-straight home tournaments to close out its non-conference schedule.
From Sept. 9-25, the Black and Gold will square-off with UNC Greensboro, Pittsburgh, Florida Atlantic and USF in non-conference action, while also hosting UTEP for its C-USA opener on Sept. 16 during the UCF Challenge. The squad will also play SMU and defending league-champion Tulsa during its eight-match homestand.
UCF will take on UAB, Tulane, Houston, Rice, Marshall and East Carolina on its home court in C-USA action, while taking on each of its league-foes, with the exception of the Blazers, on the road throughout the year, which includes back-to-back contests at Memphis Nov. 3-4.
The first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament will take place Dec. 1-4, and the NCAA Regional Finals are set for Dec. 9-10. The 2011 volleyball season will come to a close with the NCAA Final Four, which is slated for Dec. 15-17 in San Antonio, Texas.
