University of Buffalo Bulls Volleyball Team Completes Class With Two Additions
BUFFALO, NY – Third-year head coach Todd Kress has announced the addition of two more student-athletes for the 2011 season, bringing the total list of newcomers for next season to nine. UB will welcome Sarah Horvath, a transfer from Siena, and Alessandra Jovy-Heuser an international standout from Germany.
Horvath played one season at Siena where she saw action in 75 sets. She had 64 digs and 15 services aces for the Saints as a freshman. Prior to her one season at Siena, Horvath played her high school volleyball here in Western New York at Immaculata Academy. She was a first-team All-Western New York selection as well as a first-team All-Catholic selection.
“We are very excited to bring Sarah here for next season,” said Kress. “You can never duplicate getting someone who already have collegiate experience under their belt and with Sarah, we are also bringing in a high energy player that wants to make her team better.”
Jovy-Heuser is the second international player for the Bulls in this year’s class. She has been playing for the Rote Raben Vilsbiburg volleyball club in Germany since 2007, where her team was a 2008 Youth B National Champion as well as the 2010 German Champion.
“We are thrilled to bring Alessandra here to Buffalo,” said Kress. “She has a huge upside and will bring a lot of talent with her having played on one of the top club teams in Germany. She is exactly the type of player we were looking for when we were trying to polish off this recruiting class.”
Horvath and Jovy-Heuser join seven other newcomers who will be with the Bulls in the fall. Liz Scott, Sable Staller and Chelsea Toth all committed to the Bulls back in November, while Eleonora Jermilova, Kayla Nagle, Kaja Schirmer and Janelle Tabaczynski were all announced in late April.
“This has been the biggest class that I have ever assembled in my 16 years of coaching,” said Kress. “We have brought in a very diverse group, not just in where these players come from, but we have provided depth at each position on the volleyball court. We have continued to add to the foundation of Buffalo volleyball and we are extremely anxious to get these players in the gym come early August.”
