Hofstra To Take On Florida State In NCAA Championship First Round
Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Volleyball team (21-13) will be making its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance as the Pride will travel to No. 9 seed Florida State (27-3) in the NCAA Championship First Round, it was announced today by the NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee.
Hofstra’s remarkable run will continue into the NCAA Tournament as the Pride are currently in the midst of a seven-match win streak that took the squad from the brink of not qualifying for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship all the way to a CAA title.
This will be Hofstra’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since the Pride advanced to the second round in 2006. Hofstra has also made appearances in the national tournament in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2000. The 2006 team defeated Cornell in five sets in the first round before falling to Penn State in the second round.
The current seven-match win streak is the Pride’s second of at least that length this season as Hofstra began the 2012 campaign with a 8-0 record, which ranks as the second-best start in program history.
Florida State won its fourth Atlantic Coast Conference title recently as the Seminoles defeated Miami in the conference title match by the score of 3-1. Florida State is ranked 12th nationally and is the no. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament. |
